refugee of the corporate world

today was my last day of work. good-bye cubical.

i went in this morning with 2 cups of coffee and 25 munchkins for my boss and co-worker. They have been so good to me these last couple days while i worked in their office. this week they treated me to 2 lunches, 2 margaritas and a dinner.

i only worked today until 12:30. my projects were wrapped up and my files were all moved. i set my away message on my work email to read "As of 11/20/08 I am no longer with the company". lastly i handed my keys to my manager; i told him it felt like we were breaking up. he said "if we were breaking up you would be yelling at me"

when i left the office, the three of us went to lunch together. afterwards, they dropped me off at my car, gave me a hug and then i drove home to spend time with my niece.

it doesn't feel wonderful or sad, just good. i'm still so surprised at how normal / neutral i feel about this move. don't get me wrong, i'm happy i'm not freaking out and regretting the decision to move below the equator, but i'm surprised at how....simply....good it feels.
