before moving to buenos aires i was obsessed with reading blogs from people who live here. i read religiously everyday, sometimes checking 'what was up' twice a day.i don't read as frequently, but i still keep up occasionally with my favorite blogs.
today i checked out one of my favorites, http://www.discoverbuenosaires.com/, and i'm glad i did.
my boss and her 'distrust of the man' wasn't too far off the mark. the u.s. embassy in b.a. made an announcement regarding dengue :
"there are now at least 107 confirmed cases in Buenos Aires." ... "Argentines do not believe the government numbers and most believe the number of cases is actually 2-3 times higher than reported."(illustration above: this is the typical gesture for 'watch out' or as the argentines say 'ojo' (pronounced: oh-ho))

La Capital Federal y el Gran Buenos Aires comprende una población de unos 10 millones de personas. Hay 5 casos confirmados de dengue local, es decir, 0,00005 (cinco cienmilésimos de la población) ha contraído el dengue.
En un par de semanas bajará la temperatura, los mosquiros se irán y nadie volverá a escuchar o leer la palabra dengue.
Si Vd quiere saber que es lo que pasa en la Argentina, lo mejor que puede hacer es no confiar mucho en lo que dice la gente que repite lo que publican los medios (tenemos la peor prensa del mundo).
Si yo estoy equivocado, dentro de un mes estaremos todos con dengue (y en julio se habrá derrumbado la economía argentina arrastrando con ella al gobierno). Pero si nada de eso ocurre, ningún medio tendrá tiempo para darme la razón, porque estará muy ocupado anunciando nuevas catástrofes.
