yeah! i'm employed!
it's not much, but it's a start and it's a first in my Bs.As. life.
i met with the coordinator of a school this evening over a cup of coffee. she is looking for an english teacher to teach 1 or 2 hours next week and then possibly more hours the following week.
the two students next week will both have their first hour of instruction with an Argentine teacher who will teach them grammar and vocabulary. for their second hour of instruction they will practice what they learned by having conversation with me.
one student is in the IT field, which is relatively close to my field of study and the second student works for a company that is in the same industry as my last company in the U.S.
since i usually write how much i spend on things in Bs.As. i feel like i should write about how much money i'll be making. before writing the hourly wage, please know that Argentine's are paid much much less than what we consider a decent income in the states. with an American $30,000 a year income here, you can live like a king. with that said i'll be making between 25 and 27 pesos an hour ($7.30 -$7.80). this hourly wage is very typical for English teachers. you can make more when you teach privatly, which i would like to do once i start networking.
so, after a beautiful 6 week vacation, i'm excited to start working, even if it's just for 1 - 2 hours a week.
