what's going through my head

One more post before bedtime
Making this move feels right.  I don't have doubt, I know I'm doing what is right for me. However, I do have some fear; naturally.  My biggest fear is getting mugged.  (I just smirked, not sure why)

I'm a safety queen.  I never park in dark places, never park in parking garages alone and I always have a friend walk me to my car when I'm in the city at night.  I'm sure I'll be fine, but it's something I read is common in B.A (I guess it's common in every big city, no?).

Nothing common about you girl. How could a safety queen undertake this epic journey. I'd call it a trip, but it seems to be much more than that. Thhhhhhpppppp!!!!!

yes, common is not me.

There is safety and there is being scared. I'm not scared to travel, but I want to be safe. When you think of it, are we ever really safe anywhere? In our home, in our car, at work, at school? Sometimes things are out of our hands.

The day after I wrote the post I read 10-20 stories about people who were mugged in Buenos Aires. Somehow this made me feel better (I'll explain).

The muggers typcially don't use knives or guns. They looked for the opportunity; people chatting, people talking on the phone, touristy looking people. This is something I can control.

I also read some tips, like: it's smart to divide up your money and credit cards in different pockets. Not put your purse on the back of your chair, don't carry your passport, instead a copy of your passport and only carry the money you need for that day.

A mugging can happen in any big city and I accept that.

Do you have one of the wallet things that goes under your clothes? When I went to Europe, I had this flat wallet thing that threaded through my belt and then went inside my pants! It sat along my thigh, kinda uncomfortable since it was leather sticking to my skin but I felt better having it tucked away. Check out LL Bean traveller.
