reading the newspaper

Saturday morning at 9:30am I went jogging with a Brazilian classmate of mine. She was telling me about Brazil. It sounds so beautiful. I wonder if I'll ever go? We ran through the Botanical Gardens, next to the zoo and then through the Rose Garden; it's my favorite weekend jogging loop.

When I came back to my apartment and had tea, yogurt and an apple on the balcony. The weather was beautiful. During breakfast I was looking at a Spanish newspaper and then I had a HUGE breakthrough; I read my first news article!!! I mean I really read it! I understood all but 5-6 words. That's huge for me! I almost cried with joy.

The article I read was about how the city rolled out a summer culture program where all the events are free. There will be free movies, museums, theater, dance, tango and more for the next 4 weeks. I love free!

At 1pm I met a friend for a cup of coffee (7 pesos ($2)). Before meeting her I dropped off my clothes at the lavenderia.

At 2:45 I walked to meet my Argentine friend to figure out my cell phone problem. I walked quickly so I arrived early to find the cell phone store closed (closed on Saturdays)! My luck. I feel like I'm never going to get an Argentine cell phone. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the place closed;.

After we met up we walked back towards my apartment then walked to craft market in Recoleta near the famous cemetery. The market was so nice! There had to be over 100 small stands with hand made goods. The small stands had tarps over them to block out the sun, then between the stands were colorful tarps to block the sun for the people walking through the market.

After the market we walked past my friend's house, so we stopped in. By this time it was around 8pm. We all decided that we'd go to the free movie that I found by reading my first Spanish article.

The movie was a drive-in. The city set up a movie screen next to the Rose garden. Cars lined up and people put blankets down. There will be a free movie every Saturday and Sunday night for 3-4 weeks.

Before going to the movie we stopped at the grocery store to buy beer, cheese, crackers, apples, strawberries, cookies and water. We had ourselves a picnic at night, under the starts while watching an Argentine film. It was beautiful and so much fun.
